Mr. Sunil Rana (Batch (2007-09), has been elected as Global Council Member for Better Cotton Initiative. The BCI Council is an elected board whose role it is to ensure that BCI has a clear strategic direction and adequate policy to successfully fulfill its mission. Council Members are organizations representing the different membership categories – Brands Retainers, Civil Society Organizations, Supplier and Manufactures, Producer Organizations. The General Assembly, consisting of all BCI members, is the ultimate authority of BCI decision making over 21 countries presently. Each membership category has three seats, for a total of 12 seats. Once elected, the Council has the option to appoint up to three additional independent Council Members.
BCI announces election for council members under different categories every alternate year where in members completing 4 years retire and new members are elected by members from respective category.
Currently, BCI project is running over 21 countries in the world and account for 11.6% of global cotton production. The aim is to reach to 30% of global cotton production by 2020.
Current General Assembly held 13-15th June in Hong Kong. It was a moment of proud when results for the election was declared in General Assembly of BCI. Mr. Rana will be representing Ambuja Cement Foundation till 2020 under civil society category. For more details, please, browse the link
